Hi,

As a beginner in OPC and its concepts, i have developed a basic concept where my client and simulation server are in same PC. Now i have installed my Server in different PC.
1)Will OPC UA simulation server will work for remote access?
2)i tried to connect with both opc.tcp and https to communicate, both In my client application and sampleconsoleclient.
3) both pc’s are in same Ethernet connection.

This is the following error

Exception in thread “main” com.prosysopc.ua.client.ConnectException: Failed to retrieve endpoints. The server is not available: opc.tcp:///DESKTOP-6FRQH0D:53530/OPCUA/SimulationServer ServiceResult=Bad_CommunicationError (0x80050000) “A low level communication error occurred.”

As for my understanding the error states that, client can’t get the server endpoint of my another pc, is there any alternative way for doing this?
I am looking for some help !!

Rob

Hello,

Thank you for a clear explanation. The most probable reason for the error is that the client machine is not able to resolve DNS name DESKTOP-6FRQH0D.

Please try the connection with an ip-address of the server machine.

Hi,
thanks Heikki, I will look into it!

Let me add some points, Can i use WiFi to connect to the simulation server which is in other PC.
if not, is there any other way for connecting my server using wireless communication?
It would be nice if i am able to use WiFi. looking for your help.

Correct me if i am wrong , for Ethernet connection

1) you want me to use the ip-address of the computer where server is installed in the my client program?
or
2) you want to connect the two PC, by exchanging ip’s of both?

Regards
Rob

Hi,

Yes you can use Wi-Fi 🙂 You can use any connection medium that you like.

It’s good to notice that the functionality here is not related to OPC UA. The “problem” is related to DNS settings of your environment.

If you try pinging the DNS name “DESKTOP-6FRQH0D” from your client, you will receive a similar error statement from the ping utility of your platform. The problem is that your client computer cannot know how to reach the host DESKTOP-6FRQH0D.

Hi Heikki,

The above method of connecting the server remotely is solved, now i am trying to test like this.
1) My UA client application and Simulation server in a different laptop.
2) This time its not connected to same Wi-FI/router, but both the laptops are connected to the internet.
3) consider both the laptops are in different location.

Is it possible to access my server directly? is there anything that I need to configure in my client to discover the server protocol globally so that we can access from anywhere!

Looking for your suggestion.

Hi,
Is it possible to connect UA server and Client to communicate with a different (Wi-Fi) network and access the data?
I actually tested UA client by giving the ip address of my server machine in the url localhost, it shows the same error server endpoints are not available.
I am looking for your reply,
Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for the questions. As before, it’s good to note that the functionality here is not related to OPC UA. This question is related to general TCP/IP networking.

You should start by making sure that you can reach the server host by pinging from the client host. Depending on your network configuration, this may include configuring suitable Network Address Translation (port forwarding).

If the server host can not be reached from the client computer, then no TCP connection (and no OPC UA session) can be established between the applications.
